A man was on Wednesday killed in the Apapa area of Lagos when his motorcycle collided with a truck while his passenger was seriously injured.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the driver of the truck escaped after the tragic incident.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki disclosed this, in a statement, on Wednesday in Lagos.
Bakare-Oki was quoted, in a statement by Mr Taofiq Adebayo, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, as saying the motorcyclist died while his female passenger was injured.
According to Bakare-Oki, the fatal accident involving the commercial motorcyclist (okada rider) and a Dangote truck took place on Wednesday at Area B, near Point Road, heading towards Airways, Apapa.
“LASTMA officials quickly intervened, rescuing the severely injured passenger and rushed her to Apapa General Hospital for urgent medical attention,” he said.

He noted that both the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene, abandoning the truck.
The LASTMA boss said that, in coordination with the Area B Police Station, LASTMA officers removed the truck and handed it over to the police for further investigation.
He cautioned truck drivers against reckless driving by obeying speed limits and ensuring their vehicles undergo regular maintenance.
He also called on commercial motorcyclists to desist from using prohibited routes, including highways and bridges across the state.
Bakare-Oki stressed the importance of strict adherence to traffic regulations by all road users to prevent further tragedies of this nature.
While extending his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased motorcyclist, the general manager expressed hopes for the swift recovery of the injured passenger.
