The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to enforce traffic regulations, removing illegally parked tankers and vehicles in critical areas, including the Dangote Refinery and Lekki Free Trade Zone.
Over the weekend, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) dislodged all illegally parked tankers near the refinery and along the Lekki-Ajah corridor.
This action, aimed at maintaining smooth vehicular movement, included towing 10 tankers and clearing another 120 vehicles indiscriminately parked under bridges from Ebute-Ero to Ejalonibu on Lagos Island.
Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, who oversaw the operation, highlighted the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards illegal parking, especially around high-traffic areas like the refinery, Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone, and major expressways.

He noted that such practices disrupt traffic flow and compromise public safety.
To prevent recurring infractions, LASTMA has implemented measures such as the ‘Eto’ system, regulating truck movement at the refinery, and a dedicated Traffic Monitoring Zone (TMZ) in the Lekki axis.
“All impounded vehicles, including tankers and buses, will face Lagos State Mobile Courts for appropriate sanctions. This enforcement serves as a deterrent and reinforces the government’s commitment to orderliness,” Giwa stated.
Motorists are urged to comply with traffic laws, while the public is encouraged to report violations through LASTMA’s hotline: 080000527862.
