The Ladies’ Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) is gearing up for its annual Open Golf Championship, attracting over 200 golfers from Nigeria and across Africa.
The three-day tournament will take place at the Ibadan Golf Club, Onireke, from November 7 to 10.
Evelyn Oyome, President of LGAN and Nigeria’s top female golfer, announced that the championship will feature participants including renowned Ugandan golfer Peace Kabasweka.
Event Schedule:
- November 7 (Thursday): Zonal Competition and arrival of lady golfers, culminating in a ceremonial flag hoisting and a march past.
- November 8 (Friday): Day One of the tournament, including the Matron and Patron’s Cup. A cocktail party will follow at 6:00 PM.
- November 9 (Saturday): Participation of ladies and male guests, alongside the Annual General Meeting scheduled for 5:00 PM.
- November 10 (Sunday): The Trustee Cup will take place, featuring qualified players and LGAN partners, concluding with a closing ceremony and prize presentation at 3:00 PM.

Oyome emphasized the importance of this tournament, stating it is recognized by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), making it a significant event for amateur golfers nationwide.
“This is the premier tournament in the LGAN calendar, and we anticipate participation from many distinguished players. The Captain of Ibadan Golf Club, Mr. Seyi Alaba, will host the event,” she noted.
High-profile patrons expected to attend include Oyo State Governor Engineer Seyi Makinde, General Officer Commanding 2 Division Major General Obinna Onubogu, and prominent figures from various sectors, ensuring a vibrant atmosphere for networking among participants.
Past presidents and lady captains of the association, including Princess Joyce Nule, are also expected to grace this prestigious event.
With preparations underway for a seamless tournament, the LGAN looks forward to a successful championship that highlights the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie among golfers.
