Captain Onome Ebi and her 22 Super Falcons teammates are now $90,000 (about N68, 755,500 million) richer after they sealed a Round of 16 qualification at the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The Super Falcons who had already pocketed $30,000 each as an appearance fee from FIFA, now have $120,000 each- $30,000 earned in the Group Stage and $60,000 for knockout round.
Recall, FIFA announced a total prize money of $110 million has been allocated to the upcoming tournament, three times more than the previous edition.
On Monday at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, players of the nation’s senior women’s team earned another $30,000 each for booking a ticket to the knockout stage despite sharing the spoils with Ireland.
The team is expected to get another $60,000 from the Nigerian government for making it to the knockout stage.
Nigeria finished second in Group B with 5points behind host Australia on 6pts after they thrashed Olympic champion Canada 4-0.
However, each Super Falcons could go $90,000 richer if they qualify for quarterfinal of the women’s Mundial in down under.
The Randy Waldrum side will play England in the Round of 16.
