The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria has charged Muslims all over the country to actively participate in the forthcoming general election.
The election, the student body said, presents the opportunity for Nigerians, particularly Muslims to make a difference since they have the capacity to.
The MSSN National President (Amir), Uthman Abubakar, made the call in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, at the formal opening ceremony of the 79th National Islamic Vacation Course.
According to him, it is part of the aims and objectives of the MSSN to participate actively in ensuring the emergence of a credible leader and good governance.
He said, “Having a very strong formidable political structure down to the grassroots, the society shall align with the most desirable candidate with credibility and integrity adding that “Muslims should speak with one voice and vote wisely in 2023.
“With a strong voice, we call upon the youth to participate in the 2023 general election actively but wisely to salvage Nigeria which is on the verge of disintegration”.
He said the MSSN possessed the political strength and structure to make a difference in the country’s democratic election in 2023.
“MSSN has 510 tertiary institutions and 17,097 post-primary institutions making a total of 20,709 branches across the country”, he noted.
On his part, Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said the IVC should be used to collectively address the decadence and near collapse of morality among children.
“The rate at which young people get involved in various social vices is alarming. Substance abuse, drop in commitment to the collective good and misuse of social media are issues that must engage our attention,” he noted.
In his remarks, the chairman Council of Hosting Fathers and Mentors for the programme, Justice Abdullahi Haroon, said the organisation was targeting N100m from the payment of N100 from one million members.
He said, “Our numerical strength as Muslims in Nigeria will only be effective with unity and collaboration.”
