2024 NECO results out: 828,284 students secure five Credits, including English, Maths

The National Examination Council, NECO, has announced the release of the 2024 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) results, with 60.55% of candidates obtaining at least five credits, including Mathematics and English Language.
Speaking during a press briefing at NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday, the Registrar of the Council, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, provided details on the examination outcomes.
He revealed that a total of 1,376,423 candidates registered for the exam, comprising 706,950 male and 669,473 female.
“Out of those registered, 1,367,736 candidates sat for the examination, with 702,112 male and 665,624 female. The number of candidates who achieved five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, stands at 828,284, representing 60.55% of the total candidates,” Wushishi explained.
He further highlighted that 83.90% of the candidates, totaling 1,147,597, obtained five credits or more regardless of their performance in English and Mathematics.
A notable aspect of the 2024 SSSCE was the decline in examination malpractices, with 8,437 cases recorded compared to 12,030 in 2023, marking a reduction of 30.1%.

However, Wushishi disclosed that 40 schools across 17 states were found guilty of mass cheating, and that these schools would face sanctions after a review by the Council.
Additionally, he said one school in Ekiti State has been recommended for de-recognition due to widespread cheating in two core subjects and one science subject.
Regarding disciplinary actions, Wushishi mentioned that 21 supervisors involved in aiding malpractice or showing negligence would be blacklisted.
He said these offences occurred across 12 states and included abscondment, extortion, and drunkenness.
Wushishi encouraged candidates to check their results via the NECO website using their examination registration numbers.
