The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Ahmed Dangiwa, says the Federal Government will create about 6,000 jobs through the construction of 250-units Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Sokoto State.
Dangiwa disclosed this when he performed the project’s groundbreaking ceremony on Monday in the Kwannawa area in Sokoto metropolis.
He said the project was part of the N50 billion allocated to the sector in 2023 budget ongoing in 12 states, adding that in Sokoto, the project wasexpected to be completed within three months.
He said the housing project was designed with 50 one-bedroom, 150 two-bedroom, and 50 three-bedroom semi-detached bungalows with plan for direct purchase, rent to own or mortgage.
Dangiwa said the Federal Government had adopted sound financial arrangements to enable Nigerians purchase the houses either through direct payment or mortgage at a single digit interest rate of six per cent payable within a period of 30 years.
” The project is part of the President Bola Tinubu’s vision to provide affordable housing nationwide.
“This is just a start of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President, we plan to build 100,000 housing units now we have taken estates in 30 states of the federation,” he said.
Danguwa added that the Federal Government would construct similar estates in 30 states while six others would have Renewed Hope Cities.
The minister charged the contractors to ensure quality work and deliver in line with the contract specifications and agreements.
Also speaking, the Minister of State, Housing Development, Alhaji Tijjani Gwarzo, said good modalities were ensured for quality construction and Nigerians to own the houses.
Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Idris Gobir, lauded the Federal Government’s efforts, adding that the present administration has embarked on the construction of 500 housing unit to address the housing deficit in the state.
Gobir said the state government has speedily allocated land for the project to demonstrate more commitment.
Speaking on behalf of the four contracting firms handling the project, Alhaji Ali Bello, assured the execution of the project according specifications within the three months periods.
Bello said the Federal Government had redeemed its commitments as all the contractors were mobilized financially, stressing that local contents were ensured as a measure to boost the nation’s economy and harnesses it’s potentialities.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was attended by Ardon Shuni, Alhaji Jabbi Harande, who represented the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar and Commissioners, among others.
