Smugglers have forfeited over N2.3 billion worth of goods to the federal government in the South West in the last six months.
The amount arose from 203 seizures of goods being smuggled into Nigeria before they were intercepted by the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
The Controller of Zone A, Kola Oladeji, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Ikeja, Lagos yesterday.
He stated that 20 suspected smugglers were arrested for their alleged involvement in the seizures.
He listed items seized to bags rice, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), used vehicles and foreign frozen products.
He furter said that his unit arrested a self-acclaimed customs officer who defrauded many people.
The suspect, Benson Otu, claimed to be the officer in-charge of rice auctioning.
