The police in Delta State have arrested 55-year-old suspected gun runner, Ufoma Omene, in the Mosogar area of Ethiope West Local Council of the state.
Omene, who resides at the Jesse Junction area of Sapele town, was arrested at about 11:30 p.m., on June 8, 2024.
Confirming the arrest yesterday, spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, said operatives, led by ASP Julius Robinson, stormed Jesse Junction and apprehended the suspect who is also a member of the Eiye confraternity.
“Upon searching the residence of the suspect, who had been involved in a series of crimes in the state, a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle and 13 rounds of 7.6mm ammunition were recovered,” he said.
Edafe also confirmed there was a gun duel between the Quick Response Squad and two suspected armed robbers at an undisclosed and uncompleted building in the Kwale axis of the state.
He said the police, based on intelligence, stormed their hideout on June 8, 2024, at about 11:40 p.m., and that the suspects, upon sighting the police, opened fire and escaped.
According to him, three locally-made guns, two pump action guns, one AK-47 magazine, 34 rounds of live cartridges, and 51 rounds of AK-47 ammunition were recovered.
