Kyari urges Dangote to reveal NNPC staff with interest in Malta refinery

Mr Meele Kyari, the group managing director of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited has reacted to claims by Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote that some staff of the Corporation are trying to sabotage his over $20 billion refinery in Lagos because they owned a refinery in Malta where they are importing adulterated fuel into the country.n
Dangote made the accusation in a short video clip circulating on the internet taken from recording of his meeting with the leadership of the House of Representatives over the weekend.
The meeting of the lawmakers followed claimed by the regulatory agency of the NNPC that the diesel being produced at the Dangote refinery in Lagos is of low quality to those being imported.
However, Dangote denied the claim before the lawmakers led by Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of House of Representatives.
According to him, the quality of products produced at the Dangote Refinery was far better quality than the ones imported by marketers. He alleged that the imported ones were damaging cars.
Dangote said, “I still stand by what I said. Go to filling stations, you can check the quality. That is the only way. “We know where they blend these things. Some of the NNPC people and some traders have opened a blending plant somewhere off Malta. We all know these areas. We know what they are doing.” .

But Kyari denied the claim. The NNPCL GMD also said he is not aware of any staff of the corporation with interest in a refinery in Malta.
The NNPCL boss added that no blending plant in Malta or anywhere else has any influence on the operation of the corporation.
He therefore challenged Dangote of any other person with information on the staff of the NNPC with interest in a refinery in Malta to come forward with the information to necessary government security agencies for action.
Kyari, in the statement published on his X account said “I am inundated by enquiries from family members, friends and associates on the public declaration by the President of Dangote Group that some NNPC workers have established a blending plant in Malta thereby impeding procurements from local production of Petroleum products.
“To clarify the allegations regarding blending plant, I do not own or operate any business directly or by proxy anywhere in the world with the exception of a local mini Agric venture. Neither am I aware of any employee of the NNPC, that owns or operates a blending plant in Malta or anywhere else in the world.
“A blending plant in Malta or any part of the world has no influence over NNPC’s business operations and strategic actions.
“For further assurance, our compliance sanction grid shall apply to any NNPC employee who is established to be involved in doing so if availed and I strongly recommend that such individuals be declared public and be made known to relevant government security agencies for necessary actions in view of the grave implications for national energy security.
