LAGOS – Akwa Ibom State’s Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, praises the speed and excellence of construction at the ARISE Park site in Uyo, the state’s capital.

The governor, as reported in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh on Saturday, spoke while conducting an impromptu inspection of the project site upon his return from the African Food Systems Conference in Rwanda.

Eno described the project as a remarkable realization of his vision to convert a previously feared ravine into a valuable asset for the state’s tourism industry. He commended the contractor for diligently following the project requirements.

He remarked, “This location is among the most frequently visited by this administration. Its proximity to the Government House makes it a key spot for us. Whenever we pass by, we make sure to pause and assess the progress. I am pleased with the work being done, and I have confidence in the contractor’s abilities.”

The governor expressed his delight at the successful reclamation of the ravine, which has safeguarded the lives and homes of residents affected by gully erosion.

He also emphasized the economic value the project would bring to the previously devastated area upon its completion.

“This park can stand shoulder to shoulder with any in this region. It brings me joy because what was once just an idea is now turning into reality. We have a fantastic team that has made this vision come true, showing the power of collaboration. I eagerly anticipate bringing my grandchildren here and enjoying Christmas with them in this park. That’s our hope,” he remarked.

The Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga, further elaborated on the ARISE Park project, originally aimed at reclaiming the Udoinwang-Etim Okon Umana ravine, which has evolved into a comprehensive initiative with new elements incorporated following each assessment.

He reassured that the people of Akwa Ibom would take pride in the project upon its completion.

Accompanying the governor during the inspection, the Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Elder Aniekan Akpan, commended Governor Eno’s creativity and forward-thinking, hailing him as a source of pride for the party.

Echoing the contractor’s commitments, the Managing Director of Bulletin Construction Company, Chief Faysal Harb, lauded Governor Eno’s determination and dedication to the project’s implementation, affirming that the project will meet the governor’s expectations by December 2024.
