Member Representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Afam Ogene in collaboration with the National Emergency Relief Agency (NEMA), has donated relief materials worth several millions of naira to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in two communities of Ogwu-Aniocha and Ogwuikpele in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the State.
The people of the two communities were displaced since 2021 and have been staying in IDP camps since that time following internal crises.
In case of Ogwu-Aniocha, their traditional ruler was kidnapped by Unknown Gun Men (UGM) who sacked the community more than since 2021 and has not been seen since then.
Ogene had some weeks ago moved a motion on the floor of the House requesting for relief materials for his constiutents in the two communities to give them succour, which sailed through.
Presenting the relief materials to the people yesterday at Ruchem Beach Hotel, Okoti, Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area, the South East Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mrs Ngozi Echeazu, said it was at the instance of Ogene that the Federal Government remembered them.
She said it was due to Ogene’s influence and credibility that his request was granted express approval.
Mrs Echeazu urged the people not to querrel over the items but should share them equitably and fairly.
The items distributed included bags of garri, rice, tomatoes, vegetable oil, mattresses, children’s wears, men and women’s wears among other items.
In a related development, Ogene’s Constituency office has organized a three- day training programme for about 100 youth in the Federal Constituency on Solar Entergy.
The programme was organized in conjunction with the Border Communities Development Commission Agency (BCDA) and MODESCOM Solution limited.
Some of the beneficiaries including Faith John and Nnamdi Obiekie expressed pleasure and gratitude over the empowerment.
