Two men have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command, after they shot at a car containing a four-year-old girl and her brother.

Jordan Shaw, 20, of Green Lanes, N8, received 21 years in prison for multiple charges, including possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, conspiracy to commit murder, and attempted murder.

Joshua Fraser, 19, of King Edwards Road, E9, was sentenced to 14 years for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and conspiracy to commit murder.

According to the Met Police, the incident occurred on 25 February, 2023, when Shaw and Fraser opened fire on a car in Shrubland Road, Hackney, mistakenly believing it belonged to a rival gang.

Instead, the car was occupied by an innocent family, including a 13-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl. Thankfully, no one was injured in the attack.

The police said Shaw was also involved in a separate shooting on Stoke Newington High Street on 11 August 2023, where he fired three shots, wounding a man in the arm.

Following a thorough investigation, Shaw and Fraser were arrested at their homes on 31 May and 4 October 2023, respectively.

Detectives recovered the firearm used in the Hackney shooting, which forensic analysis revealed had been used in 11 other shootings across London.

Detective Chief Inspector Andrea Ireland of Specialist Crime North praised the work of her team, stating, “This investigation has taken two highly dangerous individuals off the streets. The recovery of the firearm and the convictions of Shaw and Fraser will have a significant impact in protecting our communities and delivering justice for their victims.”

The sentencing took place on 3 September at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

The Met Police revealed that in the past year, 386 illegal firearms were seized across the capital, contributing to a reduction in gun crime incidents from 196 to 145 between April 2023 and March 2024.
