Chief Gboyega Oguntuwase, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, has expressed confidence that the party will regain power in the state, even without the backing of former Governor Ayodele Fayose.

He stated that the PDP is focused on rebuilding and repositioning itself to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, Oguntuwase addressed the party’s strategy moving forward. He emphasized that the PDP’s priority is not to suspend or expel Fayose, who has openly declared support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC. Instead, the party’s focus is on preparing to win elections without Fayose’s involvement.

During the Udiroko Festival in August, Fayose had publicly endorsed Governor Oyebanji’s bid for a second term, praising the governor’s performance in office. Despite this, Oguntuwase stressed that the PDP is determined to strategize for victory independently of the former governor’s support.

“There are more important issues for the PDP than focusing on Fayose’s conduct. He has made it clear that he is not with us, so we will concentrate on winning without him,” Oguntuwase said. “Trying to suspend or expel him would only give him unnecessary attention. We have no time for that. Our goal is to rebuild our party and reclaim Ekiti.”
