Temitope Adedeji Adewale rallies support for Lagos parking policy

The Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly’s Committee on Transport, Hon. Temitope Adedeji Adewale, has urged Lagosians to support the implementation of the Lagos State Parking Policy.
He made this appeal during a recent visit to the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) office on Tuesday, alongside other members of the House of Assembly, including Hon. Yinka Esho (Mushin 2), Hon. Lukman Orelope (Alimosho 1), Hon. Lanre Afinni (Lagos Island 2), Hon. Ogunkelu Sylvester (Epe 2), as well as staff from the House.
Hon. Adewale emphasized that the committee’s visit was aimed at reinforcing the commitment of the House of Assembly to the authority’s initiatives and to also highlight the importance of the parking policy for the state’s development.
He praised the General Manager and staff of LASPA for their professional conduct, dedication to eliminating indiscriminate parking and alleviating parking induced traffic congestion in Lagos.
“We are here today for a courtesy visit and to stay informed about your daily activities and operations,” Adewale stated. “It’s important to update committee members on the Authority activities and recent achievements, especially for our new members who need to familiarize themselves with your mandate.”
The Chairman expressed satisfaction with the recent reforms in parking management, noting visible improvements, particularly in the Central Business District (CBD).
He stated that the introduction of lane markings and directional signage has significantly enhanced parking efficiency and reduced traffic-related issues.
Adewale assured the Authority of the committee’s readiness to provide any necessary support for the successful execution of its mandate.
He commended LAPAS’s accomplishments in off-street parking and expressed confidence in their upcoming management of regulated on-street parking.

During the visit, the General Manager, LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, expressed gratitude for the committee’s support, just as she provided insights into the Authority’s mandate, activities, and achievements.
While addressing some questions asked by members of the committee, Mrs. Adelabu emphasized the Authority’s commitment to delivering quality service, stating, “We are intentional about quality service delivery.
“Parking can be quite contentious, especially with many hidden stakeholders previously managing it. The House plays a crucial role in our efforts, and we rely on your full backing to implement our policies effectively. We appreciate the consistent support from the House and look forward to its continuation.”
She also addressed the involvement of local governments in parking regulation, reiterating that a mutually beneficial relationship exists between state and local authorities.
She clarified that the government does not charge residential property owners for parking on their premises; however, fees apply for using government setbacks.
Also, Mrs. Adelabu announced that the pilot phase of the on-street parking initiative will begin later this year, setting the stage for full operations in the coming year.
“We are finalizing the technical aspects and establishing a command and control center to ensure effective management.
Everything is in place for that, and we believe it will really redefine the space in Lagos.”
Lane markings and signage installation are already ongoing in key areas, including Ikeja, Surulere, Ikoyi-Obalende, Victoria Island, and Lekki, to facilitate the upcoming on-street parking operations.
