Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has revealed that the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has placed him on a watchlist, preventing him from leaving the country.
In a statement and video posted on X (formerly twitter) on Friday, Sowore shared his frustration over the ongoing restrictions. He stated, “The Nigerian Immigration Service continues to subject me to unwarranted harassment and abuse, violating my rights repeatedly. Today, again, they stopped me on my way out of Nigeria, claiming I am placed on their WATCHLIST!”

The video shows Sowore in a conversation with an NIS officer, asking to speak with a superior for clarification on the issue.
This incident is not the first of its kind. In September, Sowore was detained by immigration officials at Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos, where his international passport was confiscated. Sowore, also known for his role as the publisher of Sahara Reporters, has been a strong critic of the Nigerian government and has faced multiple arrests and legal challenges in recent years.
