President Bola Tinubu has commended Nigerian women for their vital role in driving positive change and contributing to the country’s development.

Speaking through George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), at the Empower-Her Nigeria event in Abuja, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality.

“As the President of Nigeria, I am fully committed to advancing the cause of women’s empowerment and ensuring gender equality in our nation,” Tinubu said.

He praised the essential role women play in key sectors such as healthcare and justice, referring to them as the foundation of communities. Tinubu also emphasized the importance of empowering women farmers by providing them with agricultural training, better access to land, and financial services, which would boost their productivity and contribute to the nation’s food security.

Additionally, the President highlighted the need to address health and education challenges facing women and girls. He stressed the importance of improving access to quality healthcare, education, and economic opportunities to uplift women and narrow health disparities.

During the event, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs, revealed plans to use funds raised to establish mobile courts to fast-track cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and ensure victims receive justice. Philanthropist Chief Arthur Eze contributed N100 million to support the initiative, saying it would help ease the hardships faced by vulnerable women.

Tinubu also underscored the importance of tackling various issues affecting women, including limited access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, as well as the persistent challenge of GBV.

The event saw significant donations from business leaders, organizations, and prominent individuals, alongside the inauguration of integrity ambassadors, all aimed at furthering the cause of women’s empowerment in Nigeria.
