    16-year-old girl arrested over mysterious death of 5 people in Edo

    A 16-year-old girl, Aisha Suleiman, has been arrested over death of five people found dead in a room b in Afasho community in Edo State.

    Recall that this medium on Wednesday reported the tension that gripped the community over the mysterious death of the five persons who were suspected to have died of food poison.

    The State Police Command spokesman, SP Moses Joel Yamu, in a statement Thursday evening, confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

    He have the names of the victims as Emmanuel Elogie (12), Nurudeen, Ada Samuel (16), Samuel Ayegwalo and Jeffrey Ayegwalo.

    The statement said: “The command received a report on 26/10/2024 at about 0730hrs, from one Mr Elogie Ezekiel of Afashio community, that at about 0630hrs of same date, he went to check his son named Emmanuel Elogie 19yrs at his apartment.

    “That upon gaining entrance into the apartment, he met the lifeless body of his son’s friend named Nurudeen, surname not known ‘m’ at the corridor, he went further and met the lifeless bodies of his son with his girlfriend Ada Samuel ‘f’ 16yrs on the bed in the bedroom, while another two (2) of the son’s friends named Samuel Ayegwalo and Jeffrey Ayegwalo who turned out to be siblings found in the sitting room.”

    Police operatives were said to have evacuated the bodies of the victims to the hospital, where the Doctor confirmed them dead.

    The statement continues: “On 29/10/2024 at about 1710hrs, operatives of Jattu Division received information that a girl later identified as Aisha Suleiman ‘f’ 16yrs alleged to have caused the death of Emmanuel Elogie and four (4) others with food poison was about to be lynched by some young men from the community.

    “They mobilised to the scene, rescued the suspect to the Station and the case was transferred next day to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discrete investigation.”

    Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Umoru Peter Ozigi, has directed that no stone should be left unturned to ensure that the cause of death of these young people is established.

    He further warned against jungle justice, while assuring the general public that justice will be served at the end of investigation.
