The National Chairman of the Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu Support Group (AATSG), Otunba Abayomi Odunowo has described the recent floods that swept through Maiduguri as a reminder of the fragility of the nation’s environments and the urgent need for a unified response to natural disasters.
Otunba Odunowo in a note tagged: “Message of Support to the Government and People of Borno State Over the Ravaging Flood”, estimated that the
relentless rains have engulfed over 80% of the city, displacing thousands of families, destroying homes, and crippling essential infrastructure.
He reiterated an appeal to all.and sundry in joining in the ongoing rescue mission to salvage what was left of the city.
He stated, “The residents of Maiduguri, already enduring the challenges posed by years of conflict and insecurity, now face an additional layer of adversity. This disastrous situation has not only disrupted lives but has compounded the socio-economic difficulties that families and communities have long confronted.
“The images emerging from Maiduguri paint a harrowing picture. Streets that once bustled with life are now submerged under water, schools are closed, and access to healthcare is gravely compromised. Families are separated, livelihoods are lost, and with every passing day, the toll on the emotional and physical well-being of the community grows heavier.”
According to him, the sheer scale of devastation speaks volumes about the dire needs that must be urgently addressed, saying it has become crucial to recognize the overwhelming psychological and emotional toll this catastrophe has taken on the people of Borno State, who have endured more than their fair share of suffering in recent years.
Lamenting the challenges posed to the government and humanitarian organizations in providing immediate relief and support to those affected, Otunba Odunowo said the
magnitude of the flooding has stretched resources thin, creating an urgent necessity for coordinated efforts to mitigate the impact of this disaster, saying that no one should be left behind in this crucial time of need.
“In the face of this calamity, the Ashiwaju Ahmed Tinubu Support Group (AATSG) stands in solidarity with the government of Borno State most particularly our Chairman Board of trustees, The Vice President Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima and our National Woman Leader, Hon Zara Bukar and its resilient people.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with you during this trying time, and we extend our deepest sympathies to every individual who has been affected by this natural disaster. The AATSG believes it is essential for communities, individuals, and organizations to come together, united in compassion, to support one another in the rebuilding process.”
The group commended the leadership of Borno State for its immediate response to the crisis and acknowledge the efforts being made to provide relief materials, shelter, and healthcare services to the affected populations, adding that this must be done to ensure that these efforts are sustained and expanded.
“Now is the time for local, state, and federal governments to collaborate with NGOs, international agencies, and volunteers to bolster support for Maiduguri and its residents.
As part of our message of support, we implore all stakeholders to mobilize resources and expertise to provide immediate relief. Ensure that food, clean water, medical supplies, and shelter are prioritized for those affected by the flooding. It is essential to establish robust distribution channels to efficiently deliver aid to those in need.
“Implement long-term solutions In this instance of crisis, we must also look to the future. We urge the government to invest in comprehensive flood management and prevention strategies. Infrastructure improvements, increased drainage capacity, and enhanced land-use planning will be vital in mitigating the effects of future floods.
“Engage the community by involving local leaders and community members in the recovery and rebuilding process. Their insights and participation will ensure that solutions are tailored to the unique needs and challenges of Maiduguri.
