Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has lauded the impressive turnout of voters during the local government elections on Saturday, emphasizing the enduring nature of democracy.

“In light of the turnout we are witnessing, it is evident that democracy has firmly taken root,”he remarked.

Following his participation in the electoral process at Idigba polling unit 004 of Adewole Ward in the Ilorin West local government area, the governor characterized the election as tranquil.

He went on to express appreciation for the conduct of the security agencies and encouraged them to uphold the same level of dedication.

Assessing the situation, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ilorin South local government area, Hon. Majeed Bolakale Podo, hailed the proceedings as serene and well-organized.

“Everything is unfolding seamlessly. There have been no grievances reported across all wards in Ilorin South. The process has been peaceful and methodical thus far.”

When outlining his plans for the constituents if elected, Hon. Podo stated, “Should I assume the role of chairman in my local government, I intend to emulate the exemplary leadership of the governor, who has proven to be a highly effective administrator.”

Meanwhile, during the oversight of the election process in various parts of Ilorin metropolis, the chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC), Mohammed Baba-Okanla, attributed the reported delay in the commencement of the election to logistical challenges.

“Unforeseen circumstances may lead to delays.

“Some of the vehicles transporting election materials to polling units experienced breakdowns, but we have swiftly addressed these issues. Presently, normalcy has been restored in this area. While some locations encountered delays in material delivery, we promptly intervened to rectify the situation,” he said.
