Abia State Government has finally agreed to commence the payment of the New National Minimum, saying however that the payment will begin in October 2024.
The payment of the wage, according to the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, will cut across all workers in the state.
Kanu, who was briefing newsmen in Umuahia on the outcome of the state executive council meeting, maintained that it has been the position of Governor Alex Otti to ensure that workers in the state go home with a living wage since he assumed office as governor.
Speaking on the dispensation of justice, the Information Commissioner asserted that the government would in two weeks time; begin the construction of ultramodern court halls in each of the 17 local government areas in the state, pointing out the aim is to ensure that the administration of justice is not impeded in any way.
While announcing that the governor will also flag off the construction of a 19.4-kilometre road in Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South LGAs under the RAMP project, Kanu stated that it is the intention of the government to ensure unhindered interconnectivity of LGAs of the state.

He used the opportunity to commend Abia State students at this year’s National Examination Council (NECO), describing their performance as superlative. According to him, it came as a result of the ongoing reforms by the current administration in the education sector.
On sports, Kanu disclosed that that the governor will soon host the Abia contingent in the just-concluded Paralympics and other athletics who made Abia proud in their various competitions.
In his comment, the Commissioner for Sports, Mr Ananaba Nwobilor, commended Abia contingents at just concluded the Under 15 National Youth Games held in Delta State for their quality representation, adding that their performance showed that Abia is now on a new page.
The athletics, he remarked, won 31 medals; seven gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze in the overall medals table.
According to him, the huge investments of the current administration in sports development were beginning to yield fruits.
He equally revealed that six young players discovered during the recently concluded All Secondary School Games in the state are now in Hungary where they are currently receiving training on sport development.
