A train conveying passengers from Kaduna derailed as it neared its Abuja destination yesterday. A staff of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the incident to The Guardian, saying: “Yes, a train derailed earlier today.”
When asked if the problem had been rectified, the staff replied: “We are still working on it.” Commenting on his social media handle, Shehu Sani, a former senator representing Kaduna Central, said: “Kaduna-Abuja rail has no respect for Democracy Day by derailing with our able Managing Director inside. Haba! ”
It was unclear which managing director Sani referred to, as he did not disclose the identity.
Also, an X social media user with the name Norbert Shialsuk, said: “Abuja Kaduna train derails again. We were lucky it happened when we got to Abuja. Imagine this happening in the bush. What can we ever get right in this country?”
