ABUJA – The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) has stated that it can no longer tolerate the poor cleanliness in Abuja, issuing a 48-hour ultimatum to the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) to clean the federal capital.
The deadline is Thursday, and residents are awaiting the AMMC’s next steps.
AMMC Coordinator Chief Felix Obuah gave the ultimatum following an emergency meeting with AEPB management and refuse contractors after inspecting the refuse situation in Asokoro District.
He expressed disappointment at the slow refuse evacuation, emphasising that the capital should exemplify cleanliness for Nigeria.

Obuah directed AEPB Director Mr. Osi Braimah to ensure Asokoro is thoroughly cleaned within 48 hours, extending efforts to other key districts such as Guzape, Maitama, the Central Business District, and Wuse.
He also instructed the immediate recall of casual workers to expedite refuse collection citywide.
“I am tired of receiving complaints from residents about the city’s dirtiness. Today, I inspected major areas and was appalled by the state of refuse collection. The contractors are failing in their duties, and AEPB must take action,” he stated.
Obuah, warned that the companies must improve their performance within 48 hours or face the displeasure of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who is already unhappy with the situation.
He emphasised that a city’s beauty relies heavily on its cleanliness and that Abuja should not only be clean, but also set a standard for other cities in Nigeria.
In response, Braimah assured the coordinator that the board would comply with the directives.
