The Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Engr. Timothy Nwachi has assured of his administration’s readiness to partner with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in curbing the scourge of abuse and illicit drug intake in the Area.
The Council boss gave the assurance in his Office yesterday while playing host to the Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Afikpo Command who paid him a Courtesy Visit.
He noted that most violence and crimes in the society are caused by illicit drug intake, disclosed that Afikpo Local Government under his watch has zero tolerance for anything that can lead to physical, social or emotional harm to the youth and to humanity in general.

He therefore charged the youths of the Area to shun illicit drug intake as such lifestyle is harmful to their health and future well being even as he advised that the energies channeled to the perpetrations of crimes should be diverted to productive ventures for the good of humanity and the society we find ourselves.
He equally charged Law Enforcement Agencies in the Area to be proactive in the discharge of their duties, assuring that he will on his part provide the enabling environment for them to perform optimally.
Earlier in his remark, the Area Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA Afikpo Command, ACN Kelly Adina, congratulated the Council Chairman on his coming onboard and thanked him so highly for his uncommon commitment to the peace and security of lives and property of the people of Afikpo LGA.
ACN Adina who explained some of the dangers of illicit drugs in the society, equally expressed his Command’s readiness to synergize with the Local Government to eliminate the use of illegal drugs in the Area, even as he made it categorical that it is a crime to use illegal drugs in any part of the country and so, it’s an illegality in the first place in the eyes of the law.
He advised residents to stay safe by staying out of trouble because the law won’t be merciful in it’s enforcement against illicit drugs and associated criminality.
