    A suspected notorious vandal identified as Ahmed Suleiman has been arrested for alleged vandalism and theft of electric service cable belonging to NAK Steel Rolling Company, Katsina, valued at N50 million by the state police command.

    Spokesperson for the police in Katsina, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, told journalists that Suleiman who resides in Abattoir quarters, Katsina, was apprehended on September 9, by the police operatives attached to Sabon Gari Divisional Headquarters.

    “On Aug. 9, 2024, at about 2p.m., a report was received at Sabon-Gari Divisional Police Headquarters on a vandalism and theft of electric service cable at NAK Steel Rolling Company, Katsina.

    “Following the receipt of the report, operatives of the command launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of the suspect.

    “He was found in possession of the suspected stolen electric service cable valued at about N50 million.

    “During interrogation, the suspect confessed to commission of the offense,” the police spokesperson said at a press briefing on Thursday.

    Aliyu explained that the suspect would be charged to court after the investigation.

    The PPRO also said that their operatives detained Umar Muhammed, 25, of Sabuwar Unguwa quarters, Katsina, for alleged vandalism of armoured cable belonging to Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic.

    He said, on Sept. 2, 2024, a distress call was received at the Batagarawa Divisional Police Headquarters on the activities of some suspected vandals and thieves at the polytechnic.

    The PPRO said that the DPO promptly dispatched operatives to the scene, where they successfully apprehended the suspect in possession of suspected vandalised armoured cable.

    He added that a digger, shovel, plier and two handsaws were recovered from the suspect at the scene.

    Aliyu revealed that the suspect confessed to have conspired with Isma’il, Aminu, Abdulrashid, all at large now, in vandalising the said armored cable.

    “They further mentioned one Mas’udu Amadu, 30, of the same address as the receiver of their stolen properties,” he said.

    The police spokesperson said that the culprits would be prosecuted after investigation.
