Employees of AIICO Insurance Plc rolled up their sleeves to participate in a blood donation drive, demonstrating their commitment to supporting a healthy community and potentially saving lives.

In commemoration of World Blood Donor Day 2024, 62 volunteer members of AIICO staff successfully donated blood to the Lagos State Blood Bank.

Partnering with the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service (LSBTS) for the initiative, the Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Manager of the insurer, Mrs Abimbola Shobanjo, reiterated the company’s commitment to the good health and well-being of Nigerians.

Mrs Shobanjo explained that the employees who donated their blood were motivated by patriotism and love for humanity to save those in need of blood transfusions.

“World Blood Donor Day serves as a powerful reminder of the life-saving impact a single blood donation can have. We are proud of our employees who stepped forward today to answer the call and contribute to this vital cause,” she said.

AIICO Insurance recently won the prestigious “Community Blood Drive Initiative” award from the LSBTS in recognition and appreciation of its significant contributions to ensuring an adequate and high-quality blood supply in Lagos State.

The award notification letter to the Managing Director of AIICO Insurance from the Executive Secretary of LSBTS, Dr B.I. Oshikomaya, explained that the award recognised AIICO’s outstanding commitment, partnership, and support to LSBTS through its in-kind donations and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

“This award recognises your partnership, generosity, and shared commitment to advancing blood transfusion services and improving healthcare outcomes in Lagos State,” Dr Oshikomaya said.

The award was conferred during the Youth Extravaganza of the World Blood Donor Day 2024 celebration.

AIICO Insurance commenced its employee blood donation scheme in 2021 and has since continued this endeavour to address the critical need for blood supplies in local health institutions and help those requiring blood transfusions.

World Blood Donor Day is observed worldwide on June 14 every year to acknowledge the need to create blood banks for people such as accident victims, anaemic individuals, and others with inadequate blood.
