LAGOS – Air Peace has debunked the claim that it recently had a ‘panic event’ on its flight from Akure to Abuja airport.
A statement by the airline, which was made available to journalists on Thursday, insisted that the said flight was a smooth one, which landed safely without any abnormal event at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.
The airline, however, clarified that the windshield of the aircraft an Embraer ERJ 145 had a crack on the outer layer of the front window of the First Officer’s side, which was discovered by the cockpit crew.
The airline insisted that on no account was the safety of the flight or safety of the passenger was jeopardised in the process, stressing that the cracked windshield still had two protective layers.

“…hence the there was no impact on the performance or safety of the flight and its passengers,” the airline said.
Also, the airline denied that it tried to hide the incident from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), insisting that it immediately reported the incident in accordance with the guidelines on how such reports should be filed with the regulatory body immediately the crew landed in Abuja.
“Air Peace followed due process in accordance with Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations and safety procedures. Windshield crack is a normal occurrence in aviation worldwide.
“There was never any development that caused panic in flight for the passengers on board. This is false, and such negative report should be discouraged,” the statement added.
Air Peace emphasised that it would never jeopardise the safety of its passengers and would continue to prioritise the highest standard of safety in its operations.
