A business mogul and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Elder Abiodun Johnson, has called on the people of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area to mobilize those who are not yet registered but of age to participate in the on-going Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to register.
Johnson, popularly known as Abifa, made the call at an interactive session with his Ward 1 Women and Executive members of PDP National Campaign Marshals and leaders of the party from other parts of the local government area, saying that with appointment of a deputy governor from the area and the quality of the candidate of the PDP, Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, Akoko-Edo would deliver not less than 95 percent of their votes for the PDP.
He said “This meeting is all because of Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie to know how we are going to mobilise and talk to our people, what we must do to ensure victory on the day of election which is September 21st. I am impressed by the turnout and I am convinced that Akoko-Edo is ready.
“The Continuous Voter Registration is going on and we are going to make sure that we don’t let Governor Obaseki down for what he has done, we will make sure that we give at least 95 percent of our votes to the PDP. The people of Akoko-Edo should pay Obaseki back with what he has done for us by voting massively for the PDP. Everyone should go and work in their units and wards and ensure that the votes will count for PDP”.
Also speaking at the meeting, a Senior Special Assistant to Gov Obaseki, Solomon Taiwo, said Johnson should be emulated by other leaders of the PDP in the area because “of the passion and the manner he has displayed. I am personally very surprised he spends his resources to hold regular meetings of his ward and this time he invited personalities from other parts of the local government to come and observe the party, this is unique. He should be emulated”.
On his part, a chieftain of the party, Olarewaju Sunday, said the party is mobilizing supporters who are based outside the local government area to come home and register for the election.
In her remark, the Woman Leader of the party in Akoko-Edo Local Government, Mrs. Philomena Balogun, said they were ready to work with the ideals Johnson is propagating in the party especially his level of selflessness which she noted is a motivation for them to mobilise for the election and that she was sure of victory.
