an impressive performance for Middlesbrough in the English Championship last month, Super Eagles hopeful, Chuba Akpom, has been named the PFA Vertu Motors Fans’ Player of The Month for November, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
During the month under review, the former Arsenal player was in fine form for Boro under new manager Michael Carrick, scoring three times in a row against Hull City, Bristol City and Blackpool to continue his impressive form in front of goal this season.
The English-born forward of Nigerian descent beats five other nominees – Viktor Gyokeres (Coventry), Ched Evans (Preston), Anel Ahmedhodzic (Sheffield United), Amad Diallo (Sunderland) and Kyle Bartley (West Brom) to the award.
In 15 games in the domestic league this season, the 27-year-old has scored nine goals and registered an assist.
Akpom is currently tied with other nine players in the race for the SkyBet Championship top scorer this season.
Born in London to Nigerian parents, Akpom holds English and Nigerian citizenships.
The former Arsenal youth player represented England at youth and U-21 levels, but pledged his international allegiance to Nigeria at senior level in 2019.
He was reportedly close to switching to Nigeria alongside Torino’s Ola Aina in 2017 after discussions with former Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick.
