The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, has declared his administration’s firm opposition to touting by unauthorized persons claiming to be revenue agents within the Federal Capital City.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the council’s secretariat on Tuesday, Maikalangu emphasized that his administration will not tolerate nuisances and threats to security posed by these fake tax agents.

He stated that only legitimate officials of AMAC in charge of revenue are allowed to operate in specific outskirts areas, including the University of Abuja permanent site, Nyanya on Abuja-Keffi expressway, and Dei-Dei on Kubwa expressway.
“We will not hesitate to disapprove any revenue technical partner that sends out officials to embarrass or harass unsuspecting car owners and visitors in the name of vehicle particulars and tax collection,” Maikalangu warned.

The chairman expressed his administration’s commitment to curbing the activities of unapproved persons who take over strategic streets and locations, harassing motorists and visitors by pretending to be working for AMAC.
He urged motorists and visitors to report any individuals jumping into their cars or causing disturbances to the nearest police station or the council’s secretariat.
Maikalangu also revealed that he has informed the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, and other relevant security agencies about the need to address the harassment experienced by visitors and motorists, especially foreigners in the city.
“Most of the revenue agents are overstepping their boundaries in tax collection. Henceforth, legitimate AMAC revenue agents are to operate only outside the city center, specifically in Nyanya, the University of Abuja, and Kubwa expressway,” he reiterated.
The chairman stressed that street and house naming exercises should be conducted only in the suburbs by legitimate AMAC officials. He also cautioned that any technical partner found engaging in illegal activities would be disapproved.
“We are in talks with the FCT Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to stem this menace. Those involved in illegal activities should desist from touting in the name of collecting revenue for AMAC,” Maikalangu concluded.
