The Women’s Wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra has vowed to embark on community, ward, Local Government and Zonal mobilisation to ensure that the party wins the state’s November 8 governorship election

The women made the pledge at a meeting between the Local Government and Zonal leaders and the State Executive Committee of the party at its state Secretariat in Awka on Tuesday.

The state Woman Leader of the party, Mrs Calista Adimachukwu, who led the group to the meeting, said that the women would embark on mobilisation across the Local Government Areas and senatorial districts in the state.

Adimachukwu said that PDP was still the leading party in Nigeria and Anambra in particular, and gave assurance that women would work assiduously to ensure it won the poll.

She said: “We will work to ensure success for PDP in the coming election.

“We will also pray for the success of the party.

“We shall embark on community, ward, Local Government and Zonal tours to mobilise for PDP to ensure our victory in the November election,” she said.

Addressing the women, the state Chairman of the party, Mr Chidi Chidebe, thanked them for keeping faith with the party at a time some members abandoned it over little misunderstanding.

Chidebe said the women’s wing was critical to the survival and success of the party in every election.

He assured them that in his administration, they would enjoy fair participation and full protection of their interest in all the party’s programmes.

He said that PDP in Anambra was on a “rebooting process”, while describing those who abandoned and disparaged it after attaining prominence as uncharitable and ingrates.

“The major problem here is the lack of sportsmanship, some people come here to get prominence without contributing anything.

“PDP is still the most progressive in Nigeria, states governed by our party are some of the most progressive.

“We are contesting this election with all the seriousness it deserves, we were second in the last election, we are aiming to be the first this time.

“We are going to run a data-driven administration to aid planning and proper accommodation of all relevant members.

“We will also interact and reconcile with aggrieved members,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the chairman formally unveiled the PDP women’s uniform during the meeting. (NAN)
