The Jigawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has flagged off campaigns for local government elections in the state slated for next month.
Speaking during the event at the weekend, the Governor Malam Umar Namadi described local government elections as one of the critical components of democracy in the country.
The governor noted that his administration was committed to ensuring peaceful conduct of the elections.
He said, “I call on all the good people of Jigawa State to vote for our candidates as we have confidence in their loyalty, patriotism, transparency and commitment for serving the state and humanity in accordance with our party philosophy and our 12-point agenda.”
In his speech, the state’s APC Chairman, Hon Aminu Sani Gumel, charged party members to penetrate the grassroots for campaigns to enable the party’s candidates win the elections.
He said, “We have confidence that Jigawa people will overwhelmingly vote for our candidates, but since it is part of democratic tradition to go out for campaign during election period, let us uphold the tradition and use it as time to meet and greet all the people of the state.”
