The Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission, JISIEC, announced that 11 political parties, including major opposition parties like the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will partake in the upcoming local government election in Jigawa State.
The Executive Chairman of the commission, Mr. Auwal Harbo, disclosed this during a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters in Dutse.
The election is scheduled to take place on October 5, 2024.
Harbo clarified that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was the only party that submitted candidates for council chairmen and councillors in all areas of the state.

He mentioned that the APC nominated 27 candidates, whereas NNPP and PDP nominated candidates in specific local government areas.
“We have concluded all the necessary preparations for the free, and credible electoral process
“Also 95% of election materials, including sensitive and non-sensitive materials are ready for distribution.
“We will also recruit 14,794 ad-hoc staff across the 287 political wards of the 27 local government areas,” he said.
The Chairman emphasized that all necessary steps had been taken to ensure the security and smooth running of the election.
