The national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has directed the newly inaugurated caretaker committee for Benue State not to interfere with local government structures in the state.

The Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led National Working Committee (NWC) inaugurated the caretaker committee last week to manage the party’s affairs in Benue for six months. This move followed the emergence of two factions, one loyal to Governor Hyacinth Alia and the other to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

During a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, after a meeting between the NWC and the Benue caretaker committee at the APC national secretariat, Deputy National Women Leader, Hajia Zainab Ibrahim clarified the committee’s mandate.

She emphasised that the Professor Benjamin Omale-led committee does not have the authority to dissolve local government executives in the state.

Zainab, accompanied by three other NWC members, stated, “This meeting was prompted by complaints from Benue that the committee had dissolved some local government party executives. The NWC summoned the seven-member caretaker committee to clearly outline their ‘terms of reference’.”

According to the APC, the caretaker committee’s responsibilities are to administer the party in Benue State for six months and oversee the upcoming local government elections.
