The Anambra State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) led state government has fraudulently refused to conduct local government elections for more than 18 years in the state.
The above assertion was contained in a congratulatory message to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the recent Supreme Court verdict on conduct of local council polls in all the states without elected chairmen and councilors and subsequent withdrawal of allocations to such states which Anambra state is inclusive.

The congratulatory message which was signed by the state chairman Chief Basil Ejidike, held that the APGA led state government used unelected persons to run the 21 council areas in the state thereby denying Ndi-Anambra their rights of having democratically elected officials to run the local governments.
Ejidike alleged that the APGA led state government has persistently continued to misappropriate funds accruing to local governments and that the huge federal allocations to local governments in Anambra State doesn’t reflect on the level of infrastructure in the rural areas hence the underdevelopment at the grassroots.
Ejidike therefore called on the Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo administration to do the needful now that the Supreme Court has ended the debate on local government autonomy.

The Anambra APC state chairman who heartily congratulated the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria on the landmark judgement by the Supreme Court on the protracted contentious issue of local government autonomy, equally implored Anambra citizens to hold the APGA government accountable, if it failed to conduct local government elections to energies all local councils in Anambra State with immediate alacrity.
When contacted to respond to claims by the State APC that the APGA led state government has fraudulently refused to conduct local government elections for over 18 years, the State APGA Publicity Secretary did not respond to phone calls from the journalist.
But the State Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) High Chief Barr. Ifeatu Obi-Okoye who responded, said he would not condescend to such abyss.
Obi-Okoye said, ” I will not condescend to respond to such an inflammatory language, when a man who calls himself the state chairman of a political party says that APGA government has fraudulently refused to conduct local government elections.
I have always said I will not descend to that abyss. At all times, I will respond to civilized, informed criticisms. It was the APC then known as ACN that took the government of Anambra State to court. That matter went through the High court, Appeal Court and to the Supreme Court, until January last year.
That frustrated any efforts the government of Anambra State would have made to conduct any election. So it’s most irresponsible for the same party to turnaround and use expressions such as “fraudulently.”
I could have loved the media to let him give an insight as to the meaning of that expression ” fraudulently”. If the question was that we have not conducted local government elections, that would be a matter of debate but when you use expressions such as ” fraudulently”, I definitely will not descend to that abyss!”
