By Adewale Sanyaolu
The African Petroleum Producers Organisation (APPO) has emphasised the importance of collaboration among member countries to ensure Africa’s energy accessibility, affordability, and sustainability. This, they believe, will strengthen African economies and bring prosperity to its citizens.
Dr Omar Farouk Ibrahim, APPO’s Secretary General, stated this during the election of Folashade Adekeye as the Chairperson of the Forum of the Directors of Oil & Gas Training & Vocational Education Institutes of APPO.
Dr Ibrahim urged member countries to work towards establishing Oil and Gas Centres of Excellence across the continent. He also highlighted the need for knowledge sharing to address challenges such as project funding, technology adoption, and the formation of an Africa Energy Bank.
Folashade Adekeye, Director of the NNPC Academy, took over from Abdelkader Guenone, Managing Director of the Algerian Petroleum Institute (API). Adekeye, with over 30 years of experience, will work with her colleagues to address challenges related to competencies, skill gaps, infrastructure, and funding in APPO’s training institutions.
NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, represented by Inuwa Danladi, Executive Vice President (Business Services), emphasised the importance of a standardised educational and training approach to meet the evolving needs of the oil and gas industry.
