The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has condemned the victimisation of its members in six public universities in Nigeria.

Chairman of ASUU, Taraba State University (TSU) chapter,

Dr. Joshua Mbave, in a press release in Jalingo on Friday, noted that the trend was becoming a threat to academic freedom and institutional integrity.

He advised state governments, governing councils of concerned institutions, and e relevant stakeholders in the education sector to immediately intervene and put an end to such wave of victimisation.

Mbave called for the immediate reinstatement of the wrongfully dismissed members in some of the universities. He also informed the management of the affected universities to desist from using their positions to oppress and suppress staff members, who stand for academic integrity and fairness.

He warned that the union would be left with no other option but to explore available avenues to ensure justice, if the universities failed to reinstate and pay the union members all their benefits and entitlements.

“Our members are being subjected to harassment, unjust sanctions, and repressive measures by university managements in various institutions.

“Among the universities where our members are being victimised are Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo; Kogi State University (KSU), Anyigba; Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki; Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma; Chukwuemeka Odumegwu University (COOU), Igbariam; and Federal University of Technology (FUTO), Owerri.”
