Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, said he has personally spoke with Yakubu Mahmood, the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to announce the winner of last Saturday’s Adamawa State governorship election.
Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the February 25 election spoke against rising tension over the delay in announcement of the result.
INEC has suspended the announcement of the results over controversies generated by results from Fufore Local Government Area.
The incumbent governor Ahmadu Fintiri who is running on the platform of PDP and the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC Aishatu Dahiru Binani are running neck to neck in the election results declared so far.
But Atiku told journalists in his residence on Monday that the PDP candidate has won the governorship poll with landslide and should be declared winner.
The former Vice President asked Nigerians and the international community to mount pressure on INEC to declare the results immediately.
“The attitude of INEC in this State leaves much to be desired.
“They tried to alter the results from Fofure LGA, but even with that PDP had won the election.
“I personally spoke to INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu, to release the results as stipulated by law.
“INEC should announce the results as expressed by the people of Adamawa.
“I see no reason why the delay in the announcement of the results,” Atiku said.
