Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on residents of Edo State to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the upcoming gubernatorial election and vote for a change in leadership.

In a statement shared on his X handle, Atiku emphasized the significance of electing a candidate who stands for true progress and improvement. The statement, titled “The Clear Choice for a Prosperous Edo State,” sharply criticized the APC for its alleged failures in governance.

Atiku urged voters to use their power to challenge what he describes as the APC’s “sinister reality” and its failure to meet the needs of ordinary citizens. He stated, “As the people of Edo State prepare to vote on September 21, 2024, reflect on the immense power of your vote. It is a tool to break free from bad governance and chart a new path for our state.”

He accused the APC of abandoning governance principles and neglecting the common people’s struggles. “The APC has pretended to be a friend to the masses, but behind this facade is a harsh reality. They have misled voters with false promises and are driven more by a hunger for power than by a genuine concern for the people’s well-being,” Atiku asserted.

Atiku also highlighted the worsening conditions under the APC’s leadership, pointing out high living costs and a failure to address these issues. “The APC has fostered poverty, despair, and insecurity. Our nation’s spirit has been dimmed by a constant struggle for survival, making even basic necessities like food difficult to obtain for many.”

In contrast, Atiku praised Dr. Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing him as a candidate of integrity and vision. “Dr. Asue Ighodalo stands as a beacon of hope and offers a chance for redemption for Edo State,” he said.

He encouraged voters to consider whether the APC has improved their lives or worsened their challenges, asserting that voting for Ighodalo would bring necessary change and send a message of rejection against the APC’s practices.

Atiku concluded with a call to action: “A vote for the APC is a vote for ongoing misery, hunger, and despair. Don’t be misled by their empty promises. Voting for Dr. Asue Ighodalo is not just a vote; it is a step towards reclaiming our future.”

He emphasized the crucial nature of the upcoming election, urging voters to choose Ighodalo and bring about a new era for Edo State. “The power is in your hands. Use it wisely,” Atiku said.
