Banditry: Group calls for security summit in Kogi

Concerned about the resurgence of criminal activities in Kogi State, a political group, Confluence Patriots, has charged Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to immediately convoke a security summit in a bid to finding lasting solutions to the alarming rate of kidnappibgs, banditry and other criminal activities bedeviling the state.
The group, through its Head of Media and Strategic Communication, Dr Yusuf Adama made this known in a statement available to newsmen in Lokoja on Sunday, emphasizing the urgent need to assemble critical stakeholders to brainstorm on the diverse security challenges being faced by the state with the aim of finding lasting solutions.
“There is no gainsaying that Kogi State is facing one of its worst security challenges in recent history, which calls for concern among every patriotic citizen of the state. For the seriousness that it deserves, the group hereby urges the Governor of Kogi State to Immediately convoke a security summit, inviting critical stakeholders to brainstorm on the current security situation in order to assist the relevant security agencies in formulating potent strategies and approaches towards tackling the ugly menace as well as developing the state security statutory framework,” the statement read in part.

The group asserted that no meaningful development can be achieved or sustained in an atmosphere of insecurity.
The group also advised the Governor to take advantage of the immerse wealth of experience of the incoming Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Miller Gajere Dantawaye, in tackling the menace of banditry and criminality which has become of grave concern to citizens of the state affecting the socio progress of the state.
The group applauded Governor Ododo for his deliberate policies aimed at advancing the fortunes of the state.
