Bandits have abducted the wife and four children of a member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Aminu Jangebe.
The gunmen also abducted his neighbours, Alhaji Yahaya and Sa,adu Mainama.
Speaking to Saturday PUNCH on phone, a resident of the area, Sani Abubakar, said the bandits arrived in the town at about 11pm on Thursday and shot indiscriminately to scare people.
Abubakar explained that many people took to their heels on hearing the gunshots, while others closed their houses to avoid abduction.
He disclosed that the bandits went straight to the residence of the lawmaker, destroyed the gate and gained entry.
“Immediately the bandits entered the house, they abducted the wife of the (House of Assembly) member and his four children. As they were coming out of the house, they spotted two of his neighbours, MalamYahaya and Sa,adu Mainama, who they also abducted,” he added.
Abubakar also said the bandits took away a motorcycle belonging to Mainama.
Frantic efforts were made to speak with the lawmaker but he refused to pick up the call after several attempts.
The Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, who also did not pick up calls from our correspondent, however, confirmed the incident to the BBC Hausa.
When the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Mohammed Shehu, was contacted, he said, “I will get more details”.
He, however, had yet to provide details as of the time of filing the report.
