A joint team of security agents in Bauchi State have killed no fewer than 12 notorious bandits and kidnappers during a gun battle in the Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Wakil, stated this in a statement made available to journalists in the state on Monday.
He said their kingpin, Madaki Mansur, was also killed in the operation while others escaped into the bush with gunshot wounds.
According to him, the bandits and kidnappers are notorious for terrorizing Alkaleri LGA, Taraba, Plateau and Gombe States.
Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, said that the feat was achieved through a joint operation of security agents in Bauchi State in four of the bandits’ hideouts.
He added that weapons and operational motorcycles belonging to the bandits were recovered.
The statement was titled, “Daring joint operation: the Command neutralize 12 bandits/kidnappers including their kingpin, Madaki Mansur, terrorizing Alkaleri LGA, Bauchi State and other neighbouring states of Taraba, Plateau and Gombe.”
He said, “In our combined efforts to stem the menace of banditry in Bauchi State, especially in Alkaleri L.G.A., the command was at its best recently;
“On December 19, 2022, at about 2.30am, a Joint Operation of security operatives engaged suspected bandits/kidnappers in four different hideouts; Mansur, Digare, Gwana and Dajin Madam in Alkaleri forest.
“Following the hot exchange of superior fire-power by the operatives which left 12 of the kidnappers neutralised while others were subdued, dislodged, and scampered into disarray into the nearby bushes with possible gunshot wounds and abandoned their camp.
“Consequently, weapons and operational motorcycles were recovered during the operation.
“Meanwhile, the Command is intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing members of the syndicate.”
