The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Bayelsa State during the 2023 election, Engr. Udengs Eradiri, and his running mate, Commodore Benjamin Nathus (rtd), have announced their resignation from the party.

He added that he was currently engaged in serious consultations to determine the next political platform that would allow him to serve the people effectively.
Eradiri, who placed third in the governorship election, stated that his decision was supported by his loyalists.
“Our next party of interest will be one that enables us to serve the people and move Bayelsa forward,” he said.
In his own letter of withdrawal, Commodore Nathus (rtd) stated that his decision was motivated by a desire to find a platform committed to leadership that would propel Bayelsa toward a brighter and more prosperous future.
Daily Trust reports that the resignation comes on the heels of the LP losing five of its members of the House of Representatives to the ruling All Progressives Congress within a week. The party, which has been embroiled in leadership crisis since the conclusion of the 2023 general elections, earlier lost its senator from Imo State also to the ruling party.
