A devastating fire has consumed goods worth billions of Naira at the Kanti Kwari International Textile Market in Kano, Northwest Nigeria.

The Chairman of Kano Traders, Alhaji Balarabe Tatari, confirmed the incident on Sunday, stating that the inferno broke out around 7 p.m. on Saturday at Gidan Inuwa Mai Mai on Bayajidda Street.

The flames quickly spread, engulfing multiple buildings in the market.

Tatari praised the swift response from the Federal Fire Service, Kano State Fire Service, and private companies, as well as additional support from the Sabon Gari, Dawanau, and Singa Market management teams.

“The timely intervention of the Kano State Fire Service, the Federal Fire Service, and reinforcements from private companies and neighboring markets helped in putting out the inferno,” Tatari stated.

He also acknowledged the efforts of personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies in maintaining order and controlling the situation.

Although the cause of the inferno remains unknown, investigations are ongoing.
