The body of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was recovered on Saturday following an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon, according to a Lebanese security source who spoke to CNN.

The source confirmed the body was intact when found.

This follows an announcement by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claiming they killed a senior Hezbollah official during airstrikes on Lebanon on Saturday.

According to the IDF, Nabil Qaouk, head of Hezbollah’s preventive security council and a prominent figure in its central council, was killed in the strikes. Hezbollah has yet to comment on Qaouk’s death.

The IDF described Qaouk as a high-ranking official, stating he was “deeply involved in orchestrating terrorist activities against Israel and its citizens.”

Tensions are running high in the Middle East following the assassination of Hezbollah leader Nasrallah by Israel. Despite the loss, Hezbollah has vowed to continue its fight, while Iran, a key supporter of the militant group, has promised to retaliate.

U.S. officials have hinted at the possibility of a limited Israeli ground incursion into Lebanon, although they emphasize that no decision appears to have been made yet.

On Sunday, Israel continued its airstrikes, targeting what it claims are Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. In retaliation, projectiles were fired from Lebanon into Israeli territory. The escalating violence has forced many civilians to flee the affected areas.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, under mounting pressure from the U.S. to de-escalate, stated on Saturday that Nasrallah’s death “settled accounts.”

But Iran has strongly condemned Israel for the killing of a senior commander from its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), declaring that the attack “will not go unanswered.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed on Sunday that Abbas Nilforoushan was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut, Lebanon, on Friday, alongside Hezbollah leader Nasrallah and other senior Hezbollah figures.

“There is no doubt that this heinous crime committed by the Zionist regime will not go without retaliation,” Araghchi said in a statement.

Additionally, Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, stated that Iran-backed armed groups would continue to resist Israel following Nasrallah’s death.

“We will go to any lengths to support the resistance,” Qalibaf emphasized, also accusing the United States of being “complicit in these crimes” and warning that it must “face the consequences.”
