DAMATURU – The member representing Jere Federal Constituency, Borno State, Hon. Ahmed Satomi, has donated N200 million to assist in ameliorating the current hardship faced by the victims of the flood disaster that ravaged Maiduguri and Jere local government area.

This donation from Satomi is the highest so far amongst the Senators and other Lawmakers who have contributed in cash and kind to the Borno State Government.

Recall that on 10th September 2024, Alau Dam, which has a reservoir capacity of 112 million cubic meters, collapsed. It was designed to support irrigation activities on the Alau river bank that is now used to supply tap water in Maiduguri and Jere LGA.

The flood, apart from killing many people, has also displaced over a million people, with houses, farmlands, schools, markets, and critical infrastructures destroyed.

While on a visit to Governor Zulum in Maiduguri yesterday, Satomi commiserated with the Government and the good people of the state, especially victims. He also prayed to God to grant Aljannatul Firdaus to the Souls of those who lost their lives and wished the injured ones a quick recovery.

He then announced his modest donation of N200 million for onward distribution to the victims.

Responding, Governor Zulum expressed his deep appreciation to Satomi for not only donating a huge sum of money to the flood Basket Funds but also being handy daily in providing food and non-food items to victims since the incident occurred.

Zulum assured the lawmakers that the money donated would be judiciously utilized for the purpose intended.
