    DAMATURU – A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Borno state, Alhaji Idris Durkwa, led party faithful and stakeholders including Member of the House of Representatives (Askira- Uba/Hawul) federal constituency, Dr. Hon. Midala Balami and host of other Stakeholders to the palace of the Shehu of Borno, HRH Dr. Abubakar Garbai Al’Amin El-kanemi for a sympathy visit over the unfortunate flood disaster that ravaged the many parts and cities of Maiduguri and Jere local government area recently.

    Recall that the devastating flood that occurred after the collapse of the Alau Dam, precisely on 10th September 2024, has killed many, with property worth billions of naira destroyed.

    Durkwa, in his address to the Royal Father, commiserated with Borno Emirate and the people of the state, particularly millions of the affected victims.

    He commended the Shehu of Borno for his resilience, as the traditional ruler chose not to move an inch from the palace since it was submerged by the flood and later receded after four days, according to Durkwa, this single act of resilience has encouraged many victims to stay back at their houses, despite the carnage.

    “I am here with my entourage to sympathize with you and the good people of Borno state over the unfortunate incident.

    ” We pray that God in his infinite Mercy will grant Aljannatul Firdaus to the souls of those who died as a result of the flood, and the injured ones quick recovery.

    “We should all take what happened as an act of Almighty Allah (God), even as we pray that such calamity will never happen again or anywhere”. Durkwa stated.

    Responding, the Shehu of Borno, Dr. Abubakar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi, appreciated Durkwa and members of his entourage for coming from Abuja to pay a sympathy visit.

    He explained that Borno had witnessed a similar incident in 1994, adding that the September 10th flood was devastating as it disrupted the socio-economic activities of the people, with hospitals, markets, schools, residential houses, bridges, roads, and other critical infrastructures completely submerged and destroyed.

    Apart from Dr. Hon. Midala, Durkwa was accompanied by the Borno State Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Zannah Gadama, former National Treasurer of the party, Hon. Ali Wurge, former Member Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Fali Wabilari, Hon. Habila Bello Chibok, Hon. Mohammed Ali, Hon. Sheriff Banki and host of other PDP stalwarts.
