Nasarawa State Governor, Mr. Abdullahi Sule, has urged women to transcend cultural and religious barriers to achieve greatness in their respective fields.

He made this call at the closing ceremony of the 24th National Women’s Conference (COWLSO), held in Lagos.

The conference, themed “Soar Beyond Boundaries… Enrich Communities,” underscored the need for women to push beyond limitations.

The governor who was represented by Mrs. Aisha Rufai Ibrahim, the Nasarawa State’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, emphasized that the conference symbolizes a shared commitment to regional integration and supports Lagos State’s development efforts.

He noted that the theme of this year’s conference is both timely and relevant given the current socio-economic challenges faced by Nigerians.

Governor Sule highlighted the crucial role women play in societal growth and development.

He pointed out that women are pivotal in ensuring the survival and continuity of humanity, demonstrating resilience and capability in various domains including social, economic, and political arenas.

However, he lamented the negative impact of cultural and religious biases that have led to discrimination against women, limiting their access to opportunities and hindering their potential.

He praised women for being agents of progressive change and expressed hope that the conference would provide a platform for them to engage with governmental policies and contribute constructively to governance.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who hosted the event, encouraged women to seize their rightful roles in society, enhance their creativity, and contribute to economic growth. He stressed the importance of continuous learning and skill development, urging women to strive for excellence and bring renewed energy and ideas to future conferences.

Governor Sanwo-Olu commended COWLSO for its impact on various community development projects and reiterated the commitment of Lagos State to support such initiatives. He emphasized the need for lifelong learning and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of families and communities.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Wife of the Lagos State Governor and Chairman of COWLSO, encouraged women to enter politics and assume decision-making roles to strengthen their societal position. She urged women to practice modesty, prioritize community service, and mentor the next generation. Dr. Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of leading by example and instilling values of hard work and sustainability in their children
