Breaking: Tinubu agrees to over N60,000 as minimum wage

President Bola Tinubu has agreed to pay more than N60,000 as the new National Minimum wage for workers after labour unions met with government in a crucial meeting on Monday.
The Organised Labour had down tools on Monday, shutting down the nation after the Federal Government refused to hike the new minimum wage above N60,000.
The decision to pay above N60,000 was arrived at during a meeting of the NLC and TUC leaders with federal government’s representatives held at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Monday night.
It was agreed at the end of the meeting that President Bola Tinubu is committed to establishing a National Minimum Wage higher than N60,000 and that the Tripartite Committee would convene daily for the next week to finalise an agreeable National Minimum Wage.

It was also agreed that in recognition of the President’s commitment, the organised labour would immediately hold meetings of its organs to consider this new offer.
The meeting also agreed that no worker would face victimisation as a consequence of participating in the industrial action.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha signed on behalf of the federal government while the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, and the President of the Trade Union Congress, Festus Osifo signed on behalf of the labour unions.
