A one-storey building collapse in Minna, the capital of Niger State, has resulted in multiple people being trapped under debris.

According to ChannelsTV emergency responders rushed to the scene and managed to rescue seven individuals, who are currently receiving medical attention at Minna General Hospital.

The incident occurred at the bustling New Market Area, a prominent location in Minna, North-Central Nigeria.

As of now, efforts to manually remove the debris have commenced, with plans to mobilize machinery for a more efficient rescue operation for those believed to be trapped.

The exact cause of the building collapse remains unknown at this time.

Hussaini Ibrahim, the Director of Information and Special Duties at Niger State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed that rescue operations are still underway, the television station reported.

According to Bako Ismail, the General Manager of Niger State Urban Development Board, the building was illegally converted into a multi-storey structure.

The board had previously attempted to halt the illegal conversion, but the property owner persisted, leading to this unfortunate incident.
